Featured as one of Paul Davis’ “20 Women of 2020”, Sharon Green is the Owner of Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Asheville, NC.
When did you start working for Paul Davis?
April 2002
What were you doing before that?
My husband and I owned a car business and I was working for an RV store as a finance manager
How did you get the job—or what interested you in going for it?
The owner of the business at the time came in to buy a truck from us – conversation lead to him needing a finance person in his office on a part time basis but looking for someone to take over the business within the next 5-7 years. I started with him in the office the next week then moved from Job Cost Accountant (JCA) to mitigation team to mitigation associate on up to repair associate then to GM before I finally bought him out in 2011.
Give us 2-3 paragraphs of your duties and what a day of doing each one of those would look like.
As an owner, my duties include whatever needs to be done that day. It could be a day of financial crunching of the numbers, a day of sales calls to potential lead sources, a day of processing paperwork and cleaning up the books, or it could mean I am out in the field putting out potential customer service complaints or extracting water with the mitigation crew. I do whatever is most important to this business that day.
Family info and how it relates to your job and daily life.
I don’t know where to start when I start talking about my family. I will start from the beginning. First and foremost, I was born into the most awesome family that anyone could ever want. I have a loving and supporting mother and father who taught me from day one that I can be anything I want to be. I have a brother that is so smart that I had to constantly work to compete with him which made me constantly better at everything I tried to do. As I looked for my future companion, I looked not for a husband but for a true soul mate. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband that supports me in every way a person can possibly support another. He is my rock. He is my soulmate.
I also have a step daughter and son in law that took a leap of faith and decided to open their own business in Knoxville, TN; a son who is currently in graduate school at Western Carolina University on a medical tract and a daughter who finished in May her 4 year degree at East Tennessee State University and now will start a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy tract at St. Augustine Health Sciences. These individuals along with other close friends and relatives are in my life to constantly lift me up. They have stood beside me on bad days and pulled me out of the trenches when I needed a hand to pull me up. They are there to celebrate when all is going well, and life is good. They are there to just stand by when life is at an even level and all I need is someone beside me. I have had a support structure that few can even dream about and I thank God for all of them every day.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
That is a good question – I will at some point look to retire out of this business. I don’t see it happening in 5 years but the path will be set by then for the exit plan. I am 48 years old now and want to be able to enjoy my life in retirement. We are constantly building our retirement plan and when the time comes, we want to be able to enjoy our grandkids and travel the world. This job already allows a lot of that but in 5 years, I expect to be doing more traveling and less working. I have a great team and they are able to continue on when I am out of the office so I feel confident that there will be more beach stays in 5 years than there will be this year. 😊
