Life is a journey filled with experiences and opportunities. For those who seize the moment and work hard to make the best of their circumstances, the journey can be a true joy. For Ronal Quiala, who joined Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Rochester, New York just four years ago, he is continuing his journey to become exitoso. That’s Spanish for a person with a record of successes.
Ronal’s journey began in Cuba, where he pursued semi-professional basketball and then worked as a firefighter until 2006. Moving to the U.S. without English proficiency, he settled in Upstate New York, embarking on a career in asbestos abatement. His expertise and skills learned as a firefighter gave him a foundation to do that work in the U.S. However, Ronal’s enthusiasm to grow his skills and move into leadership positions in the U.S. were held back due to language barriers. According to Ronal that changed when he joined the Paul Davis Restoration team in 2020.
Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Certification
Ronal had obtained his New York State Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Certification, a feat overlooked by previous employers, but not Paul Davis. “Ronal spearheaded our asbestos abatement program, seamlessly integrating it with other environmental projects,’’ says David Savage, president of Paul Davis of Rochester. “In a regulatory landscape as intricate as New York’s, Ronal’s flawless compliance record speaks volumes. He’s emerged as a mentor for others and a leader, guiding other new technicians to become supervisors themselves. Additionally, he manages complex fire and mold restoration projects for our customers.”
You Can Do It!
“These four words are my belief,” says Ronal. “I live my You Can Do It motto every day and I tell new people joining Paul Davis the same thing.” Ronal’s drive and enthusiasm are contagious. “The opportunity here at Paul Davis to improve yourself is real. For example, my English is getting better all the time with the help of other team members. So much so that now as a supervisor I get the opportunity to explain to customers what steps we’re taking to mitigate and restore damage they’ve experienced. I really enjoy that part of my supervisor’s job.”
Life Away from Work
“My family, wife and son (21 YO) who emigrated here in 2007 with me, and now our daughter (13 YO) born here in the U.S., miss other family members still in Cuba, so we keep in touch and visit when possible. In the U.S. we also do what we can by volunteering to help the homeless population with clothing and food donations. They too need encouragement and a positive belief in ‘You Can Do It’. Since joining Paul Davis my life has changed 100%.”
